The image above taken in 1972 is an authentic picture of an incident during the Vietnamese war. The “Napalm-Girl” post was marred with a lot of controversy because of the nudity of the girl which is seen by some critics as a violation of best practice. Refer to the inappropriate communication and media fluency section under learning unit 3 in the manual.
In your opinion do you think this image is inappropriate given the context? Justify your argument.

It is imperative that thought is given to the audience and to the type of message being sent, the language that is used and the manner in which it is delivered. By not following good etiquette, the communication becomes inappropriate. Sometimes you might need to create several messages, with the same information, for different groups of the audience.
If you choose to use an image that is manipulated or edited, you are going to battle with trying to get your desired message across, as accurately as possible. You need to consider, your audiences ability, as it is pointless creating a message that your intended audience does not know about or does not have access to even though you used the correct medium of communication.

No the image is appropriate as it depicts the
brutal state of the Vietnamese people paying particular attention to children
during the Vietnamese war. The picture might be seen as improper yet people in
general need to understand the circumstances during this time and the negative
effect it had on the innocent civilians (adults and especially children). It is
imperative that the media think about the message they are trying to broadcast
before sending it. This includes the type of language used and the manner in
which it is delivered. When posting images like this, one needs to consider
that they are dealing with people of different languages, cultures, ages and
backgrounds. So what may seem informative and interesting to one person may be
disturbing to another.
